Go to the Edublog Insights blog. Scroll down to the post, entitled, "Reflecting on Their Learning" dated Oct. 16, 2008.
Comment on how this teacher used a blog to help students reflect on their learning. How could you use a blog in teaching your discipline?
I like the idea of the questions the teacher asked. I'd modify them somewhat for chemistry. For example, at the end of a unit or the end of the week I might ask something along these lines:
ReplyDeleteWhat are the major ideas you learned? How do these relate to the 'essential concepts' we discussed.
How did the labs show evidence for the concepts we studied?
Do you feel that you understand what we've studied? Do you still have questions? What are they?
What helped you the most in understanding this topic?
I have asked my high school history students to answer similar questions at the end of individual projects. Perhaps a blog could provide the students a forum for ongoing rather than isolated reflection on their learning, as well as an ability to share and comment on each other's reflections.
